Oxycodone is classed as a semi-synthetic opioid along with hydrocodone. The drug comes from the opium poppy but it is manufactured from codeine compounds (a natural opiate) instead than directly from the plant. Oxycodone, classed as opiate narcotic, works by changing the way the nervous system and the brain respond to pain.
