16 Panel Drug Test Cups
A 16 panel drug test cup collects a urine sample and screens it for sixteen drugs at once, with results
in about 5 minutes. All seven of our Serenity Cup® 16 panel cups test the same twelve core drugs: AMP,
BAR, BUP, BZO, COC, fentanyl, MDMA, MET, MTD, OPI, OXY and PCP. The last four slots change from cup
to cup, choosing from THC, EtG (alcohol), tramadol, K2, TCA, kratom, ketamine and propoxyphene. Four cups
add adulterant checks. One cup is CLIA waived; the other six are labeled Forensic Use Only. Cups come in 120 mL
or a 90 mL economy size, from $1.69 per cup in bulk. Need fewer drugs? Our 12 panel drug test guide explains the classic panel.

What Does a 16 Panel Drug Test Cup Detect?
A 16 panel drug test cup detects sixteen drugs or drug classes, but there is no single standard list. Lab 16 panels often add drugs such as meperidine or carisoprodol, while instant cups like ours add alcohol, fentanyl and newer drugs. The first table shows every strip used across our seven cups. The second table matches each cup to its drug set.

How to Use a 16 Panel Drug Test Cup
A 16 panel cup is used in three steps, then read with three possible results:
Step 1 – Collect
Open the sealed pouch just before use. The donor fills the cup to the line. Close the lid until it clicks.
Step 2 – Check temperature
Within 4 minutes, check that the temperature strip reads 90–100°F. Set the cup on a flat surface.
Step 3 – Read
Peel off the label and read at 5 minutes. Don't read after the time limit in the insert.
Positive
Only the control line (C) appears. The drug is at or above the cutoff. This is a preliminary result; confirm it by GC-MS or LC-MS/MS.
Negative
Lines appear at C and T. A faint T line still counts as negative.
Invalid
No C line. Retest with a new cup. If it happens again, call us at 561-897-9238 with the lot number.
What Is in a 16 Panel Multi-Drug Test Cup, Class by Class?
A 16 panel cup is the step up from a 12 or 14 panel when your program needs alcohol, fentanyl and newer drugs on the same screen. These are the five drug classes our cups cover:
-
Opioids – five or six strips:
Opiates (OPI), oxycodone (OXY), methadone (MTD), buprenorphine (BUP) and fentanyl (FEN) on every cup, plus tramadol (TRA) on 5 cups. Opiate strips don't reliably detect oxycodone, fentanyl or tramadol, which is why each has its own strip. Read more about tramadol and drug testing.
-
Stimulants:
Amphetamines (AMP), methamphetamine (MET), cocaine (COC) and MDMA, on every cup.
-
Sedatives, antidepressants and dissociatives:
Benzodiazepines (BZO), barbiturates (BAR) and PCP on every cup; tricyclic antidepressants (TCA) on 3; ketamine (KET) on 1. A BZO strip doesn't detect barbiturates, so both are included.
-
Cannabis, synthetic drugs and kratom:
Marijuana (THC 50) on 6 cups, K2/Spice on 4, kratom on 2. Our THC-free 90 mL cup suits programs that allow medical cannabis but monitor everything else.
-
Alcohol and specimen validity:
EtG (300 ng/mL) on 6 cups shows recent drinking, not current intoxication. pH, specific gravity and creatinine on 4 cups flag samples outside normal ranges, which can point to dilution or tampering. Recollect a flagged sample, under observation if your policy allows.
Every cup has a temperature strip and built-in control lines.

Why 16 Panel Cups Add EtG, Fentanyl & K2
Older 10 and 12 panel cups miss three things many treatment and court programs now ask about: drinking, fentanyl and synthetic drugs.
- › EtG is a breakdown product of alcohol that stays in urine longer than alcohol itself. How long depends on how much was drunk and on the cutoff. See how long EtG stays in urine.
- › Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that standard opiate strips don't reliably detect, so it needs its own strip. All seven cups have one.
- › K2 (Spice) is a group of synthetic cannabinoids that THC strips don't detect. Four cups add a K2 strip.
Where 16 Panel Cups Are Used
Five settings use 16 panel cups most; this table matches each to a cup:
| Setting | Main uses | Best-fit 16 panel cup | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Probation, parole and drug courts | Random compliance testing, phase reviews | K2/tramadol cups with adulterant checks | Fentanyl, alcohol, K2 and tamper checks on one screen. Confirm non-negatives at a lab before they are used as evidence. |
| Sober living | Admission and routine screening | Kratom/EtG cup or THC-free kratom cup | Alcohol and kratom on the same cup. |
| MAT and behavioral health | BUP/MTD adherence, relapse checks | Tramadol/EtG cup, kratom/EtG cup | Separate BUP, MTD, OXY, FEN and TRA strips show prescribed treatment drugs next to illicit opioids. |
| Pain management clinics | Opioid adherence | CLIA-waived fentanyl cup | CLIA waived, fentanyl at 1 ng/mL, tramadol and TCA strips. |
| Corrections | Intake, random, post-visit | 90 mL economy cups | Lower cost per test at high volume. |
Are 16 Panel Cups Right for Workplace Testing?
Sometimes. Most non-DOT employers use a 5 to 12 panel cup. A 16 panel cup fits workplaces with a specific need, such as a policy that covers fentanyl, tramadol or alcohol. DOT-regulated tests can't use instant cups; they must go to an HHS-certified lab under 49 CFR Part 40. For a lower-cost workplace panel, compare our 14 panel cups.
16 Panel Cups for Probation, Courts and Treatment Programs
Probation departments, drug courts and treatment programs use 16 panel cups because one cup covers fentanyl, alcohol (EtG) and synthetic drugs as well as the classic drug classes. That saves a second test when someone is suspected of drinking or using K2.
- › Court-ordered and random compliance screening
- › Fentanyl, EtG and K2 on one screen
- › Adulterant checks at collection on four cups
- › A preliminary result in about 5 minutes. Positives should be confirmed at a lab before sanctions, as many courts require.
Treatment and MAT programs use the same cups to check that patients take buprenorphine or methadone as prescribed and to spot relapse. A 16 panel dip card is an option for programs that collect in their own cups.

CLIA Waived vs Forensic Use Only: What's the Difference?
The 16 panel drug test urine cup carries a "Forensic Use Only" designation, which has specific meaning for who can purchase it and how results can be used.
- CLIA waived: The FDA has cleared the test and categorized it as waived under CLIA. Sites with a CLIA certificate of waiver can run it at the point of care. It is still a screening test, and positives should be confirmed at a lab. One of our 16 panel cups is CLIA waived: the fentanyl 1 ng/mL cup. See all CLIA waived drug tests.
- Forensic Use Only: The product has not gone through FDA 510(k) clearance for clinical use. It is sold for forensic settings such as courts, probation, corrections and compliance programs. It is not for diagnosis, treatment decisions or home use. Six of our 16 panel cups are Forensic Use Only.
-
-
- How results are used: Forensic tests check program compliance, for example probation conditions or sober living rules. Many courts require lab confirmation (GC-MS or LC-MS/MS) before a screening result is used as evidence.

Frequently Asked Questions for 16 Panel Drug Test Cups
16 panel drug test cup is used for rapid urine screening in probation programs, workplaces, rehabilitation centers, and forensic testing to detect multiple drugs and alcohol metabolites in a single test.
It typically detects AMP, BAR, BZO, BUP, COC, MET, OPI, OXY, PCP, MDMA, THC, MTD, KET, K2, FEN, and ETG.
Yes, most modern 16 panel drug test cups include a dedicated fentanyl (FEN) strip designed to detect synthetic opioid exposure.
They provide presumptive screening accuracy using immunoassay technology, but any positive result is typically confirmed with laboratory testing such as GC/MS.
Yes, it includes ETG (Ethyl Glucuronide), which detects recent alcohol consumption beyond the detection window of breathalyzers.
Fentanyl is generally detectable for 2–3 days depending on dosage, frequency of use, and metabolism.
ETG is a metabolite of alcohol that allows detection of alcohol consumption for up to 80 hours in urine.
Yes, it can detect prescription opioids, benzodiazepines, buprenorphine, methadone, and oxycodone.bstance coverage or for individuals conducting self-screening.
It uses immunoassay test strips inside a sealed cup that react to drug metabolites in urine, producing visible results within minutes.
A 16 panel test includes expanded detection for fentanyl, ETG alcohol, ketamine, and synthetic cannabinoids, which are not included in most 12 panel tests.
Yes, 16 panel drug tests with a K2 strip can detect synthetic cannabinoid metabolites.
THC detection identifies marijuana use through urine metabolites, with detection times varying based on usage frequency.
Yes, they are widely used for court-ordered testing, compliance monitoring, and relapse detection in probation and parole systems.
Yes, many expanded panels include ketamine (KET), a dissociative anesthetic increasingly seen in forensic testing.
A positive result indicates the presence of a drug metabolite above the cutoff level, but confirmation testing is recommended.
Most instant urine drug test cups provide results within 5 minutes after sample collection.
Yes, which is why many 16 panel drug test cups include adulteration checks such as pH, creatinine, and specific gravity testing.
A cutoff level is the minimum concentration of a drug metabolite required to trigger a positive result in a screening test.
Yes, they are commonly used in safety-sensitive industries for pre-employment, random, and post-incident drug screening.
