How to Use the 6-MAM Rapid Test Strip – Quick Guide

The 6-MAM Rapid Test Strip is a simple, fast, and accurate urine test used to detect 6-Monoacetylmorphine (6-MAM) — a specific metabolite of heroin.

Instructions:

  1. Collect a urine sample in a clean container.

  2. Open the sealed pouch and remove the test strip.

  3. Dip the strip into the urine sample for about 10–15 seconds. Do not immerse past the max line.

  4. Lay the strip flat on a clean, dry surface.

  5. Wait 5 minutes and read the results:

    • Two lines = Negative

    • One line in control region only = Positive

    • No line in control region = Invalid

For best results, ensure the test and sample are at room temperature before testing.

6-MAM stands for 6-Monoacetylmorphine, which is a unique and specific metabolite of heroin.

What You Need to Know About 6-MAM:

  • Specific to Heroin:
6-MAM is only produced when the body breaks down heroin, making it a definitive indicator of heroin use. Unlike morphine or codeine, which can be found in various opiates, 6-MAM confirms heroin intake.

  • Short Detection Window:
6-MAM is typically detectable in urine for up to 6–8 hours after use, sometimes up to 24 hours depending on dosage and metabolism. It is often tested alongside morphine to improve accuracy.

  • Why It Matters in Drug Testing:
Detecting 6-MAM is essential in forensic, clinical, and legal settings because it provides clear evidence of heroin abuse, distinguishing it from other opioids.
