How Does the Drug Test Strip Work?

Drug Testing Strips are a more specified way of screening for drug use.  In order to begin using the test strips, a sample cup would need to be filled in order to contain the urine sample.  The sample is then given to the test evaluator.

The evaluator will then immerse the Testing Strip into the urine (arrow facing down towards the urine) The test will yield a positive result if the concentration exceeds the cut-off level indicated. These Testing Strips also detect one kind of substance per strip.  Some of the more popular test strips detect Amphetamine, Benzodiazapam, Cocaine, Cotinine, Etg, Fentanyl, Gabapentin, HCG, Kratom, Opiates/Morphine, Oxycodone, Suboxone, Synthetic Marijuana, TCA, THC Strips, and Tramadol.

What is an EtG Test?

EtG (Ethyl glucuronide) is a metabolite of ethanol and is produced in the human body after consuming alcohol.  EtG can be detected in urine up to 80 hours (3.3 days) after alcohol consumption.

Drug test kits that contain EtG detection are sensitive and have been the preferred test to verify sobriety industry-wide.

Does Adderall Show Up on a Drug Test?

Adderall will be detected on drug tests that detect Amphetamines.

Adderall is a widely used stimulant medication to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). When taken in unprescribed large amounts, this can lead to addiction and the risk of overdose.  The time it takes for Adderall to work its way through the system depends on many factors.

Your weight and the condition of your kidney or liver are also some of the factors that can affect how long Adderall stays in your body.  It shows up on a drug test and is detectable in urine for 3-4 days after the last intake. It can be detected in blood tests up to 46 hours, in saliva for 20-50 hours, and in hair for up to 3 months.

Will CBD (cannabidiol) Make Me Test Positive for Marijuana?

Cannabidiol or CBD is from hemp, a cannabis strain that contains less than .3 percent of low tetrahydrocannabinol or THC, a substance that has intoxicating effects. CBD also does not react to the tests that are used to screen for marijuana use.  However, it’s not impossible to test positive for THC after consuming CBD products.  Many CBD products do in fact contain amounts of THC.   Here are a few drug tests that detect THC levels:

  • THC Test Strips
  • 8 Panel Urine Multi-Drug Test

Are these tests CLIA-waived?

For a test to be classified as CLIA-waived, it must meet the CLIA regulations and be approved based on CLIA criteria for a waiver. Drug test dip cards and drug test cups are considered CLIA-Waived tests. Besides that these tests are simple and low-risk for errors, they also meet the following CLIA requirements:

  • Employ methodologies that are so simple and accurate as to render the likelihood of erroneous results negligible.
  • Use unprocessed specimens (whole blood or oral fluid)
  • Pose no reasonable risk of harm to the patient if the test is performed incorrectly.
  • These are cleared by the FDA for home use.
