What is Propoxyphene?

Propoxyphene belongs to the opioid family and was widely used as an Opioid Pain Reliever (OPR). It was typically prescribed to manage mild to moderate pain and occasionally as a cough suppressant. However, in 2010 the FDA pulled it from the market due to its high risk of severe heart issues and its capability to cause fatal side effects such as cardiac arrest. Despite its ban, due to its historical use, it remains a substance of concern, making its detection essential in various contexts, especially for law enforcement and forensic testing.

Understanding the nature of Propoxyphene’s risks and the reasons for its removal from the market are vital for employers and healthcare professionals who might encounter this substance in occupational or clinical contexts.

Instructions To Use PPX Drug Test Strips

  1. Remove the Propoxyphene PPX Drug Test Strips from the sealed pouch and use it as soon as possible. For best results, perform the test within an hour.
  2. Next, hold the dip test by the end, where you can see the product name. To avoid contamination, do not touch the test membrane.
  3. Then, holding the test vertically, dip the test in the urine specimen for at least 10-15 seconds. Do not immerse above the maximum line (MAX) on the test. That’s about 1/5th of the way up the test.
  4. After the drug test has finished, remove the test from the specimen and place it on a non-absorbent flat surface. Start the timer and wait for the colored band(s) to appear. Read the result at 5 minutes. Do not interpret it after 10 minutes.

Why Test for Propoxyphene?

Propoxyphene was a drug often prescribed to treat pain.  Patients would take it orally and its effects could be positive depending on the circumstance.

Today, propoxyphene is now banned in the United States, however, it is still sold on the streets and in black markets.  The FDA recommended against the production of PPX dues to the ’cause serious toxicity to the heart, even when used at therapeutic doses.

While it was more widely prescribed, many had reported that propoxyphene can cause respiratory arrest and cardio-respiratory arrest in addition to other detrimental side effects.

Unfortunately, PPX can still be acquired illegally and the severe effects of its use can be disastrous.  Many of those who are conducting drug screens will opt to include PPX into their urine screens due to it’s potency. Employers and healthcare providers benefit from recognizing Propoxyphene’s potential harm, allowing them to create and uphold safety measures aligned with legal and ethical standards.

Why Does My Tracking Info Still Say "Label Created, Not yet in the System" When I Placed It X Days Ago?

If your order was placed via USPS, sometimes your label might not show up in their system even 1-3 days after they have received the package. The same can happen for UPS orders, although they almost always show up in their system the night which they are shipped. If you have any questions regarding the status of your order, please contact us and we will investigate the matter.

If I Pay for a next Day Air Delivery, Am I Guaranteed to Receive It the next Day?

Air deliveries performed by UPS are counted via business days, so you will receive your package the business day after it has been shipped. We also do not ship orders placed after 4 pm EST on the same day, so Next Day orders placed after 4 pm will be shipped the following business day.

Why Can't I Check the Tracking of My Package?

After you place your order, an email will be sent to you with the tracking number within a business day. If you did not receive this email, it’s possible that the e-mail was entered incorrectly, sent to your spam folder, or blocked. If you did not receive this email, please call or email us and we’ll be happy to give you the status of your shipment.

I Placed My Order but I No Longer Need It. Can I Return It and Get a Refund?

We accept returns for unused items as long as they are placed within 30 days after the day they are purchased. Although shipping is free upon order, we still incur a cost for every order that is shipped, and you will be refunded the amount of your order once we receive the returned goods, minus the cost of shipping.
