Understanding Urine Adulteration Test Strips
Urine Adulteration Test Strips represent a crucial tool in drug testing, employed to check if a urine sample has been manipulated, tampered with, or adulterated to hide the presence of illicit substances. They scrutinize for certain adulterants and parameters in the urine that may signify an attempt to evade positive drug test results when significantly altered.
What are Adulteration Test Strips?
You may be asking yourself, what is an adulterant test in drug testing? Adulteration test strips are tools used to determine if a urine sample has been tampered with or altered to mask the presence of drugs. They test for adulterants and certain parameters in the urine that, when significantly altered, may indicate an attempt to evade positive drug test results.
Drug Adulteration Test Strips: The Process
Drug adulteration test strips involve using test strips to check if a urine sample has been interfered with, or modified to conceal the presence of drugs. They can detect changes in various aspects of the urine sample, such as temperature, color, pH, specific gravity, and the existence of masking agents.
If these facets of the urine sample are manipulated, it might indicate attempts to dilute, substitute, or chemically modify the sample to yield a negative test result. Hence, urine adulterant strips are pivotal in maintaining the integrity and accuracy of drug tests.
How To Use Our Adulteration Test Strips?
Adulteration Pad | Reactive | Buffer and Non-reactive Ingredient Indicator |
Creatinine (CRE) | 0.04% | 99.96% |
Nitrite (NIT) | 0.07% | 99.93% |
Glutaraldehyde (GLUT) | 0.02% | 99.98% |
pH | 0.06% | 99.94% |
Specific Gravity (SG) | 0.25% | 99.75% |
Oxidants/PCC OXI/PCC) | 0.36% | 99.64% |
Before you start testing, ensure that the strip, urine sample, and any controls have acclimatized to room temperature, which should ideally be between 15-30ºC.
- Take out the strip from its sealed container and use it promptly. After you’ve taken out the necessary number of strips, make sure to secure the canister tightly.
- Submerge the reagent sections of the strip fully in a urine sample that’s been thoroughly mixed. After immersion, the strip should be promptly removed from the urine sample to prevent the reagents from dissolving. Refer to the illustration for further guidance.
- Now, keep the strip flat and without delay, touch an absorbent material like a paper towel with the edge of the strip. This step prevents the mixing of chemicals from adjacent reagent sections and also prevents urine from getting onto your hands. Please refer to the illustration for more clarity.
- Wait for a minute and then compare the reagent areas with the color blocks printed on the label of the canister. Make sure to hold the strip near to the color blocks for accurate matching. Avoid interpreting results if more than 4 minutes have passed. You’ll find more details in illustration 3.
Adulteration Drug Test Results:
The results are determined by visually matching the color blocks that have reacted on the test strip with the color blocks printed on the canister.

Crucial Precautions to Bear in Mind
It is important to note that this test is intended only for Forensic/Toxicology use and should not be used post the expiration date. The strips should be stored in the closed canister until they are used. Additionally, the reagent areas of the strip should not be touched, and any discolored strips that might have deteriorated should be discarded. All specimens should be considered potentially hazardous and handled as if they are infectious agents.
