Fentanyl Drug Test Strips
The fentanyl urine test strips are used to detect fentanyl in human urine. Fentanyl is known to be a synthetic opioid connected with the family of phenylpiperidines. It’s used in medical facilities to manage severe pain as well as in end-of-life palliative care.
This drug can also be used as an anesthetic. It can be injected into the patient, and it is available as a Nasal Spray. There are also transdermal Patches that can be prescribed as well.
When using the fentanyl urine test strips, closely monitor the change of the color of the strip to confirm the absence or presence of fentanyl. The antibody-drug conjugates are deactivated on the test region of the membrane.
During the test, the collected urine specimen reacts with antibodies conjugated to colored particles and percolated on the sample pad. All fentanyl test kits should be brought to room temperature before use.
Why Test for Fentanyl?
Reports of Fentanyl overdoses have been mainly from the street drugs obtained by recreational drug users. These street drugs often contain a variety of mixed medications resulting in untold complications.
Pharmaceutical Fentanyl under the supervision of a medical professional has not been a leading cause in fentanyl-related deaths.
It’s for this reason that Non-Medical Fentanyl has made its way into the hands of users, with disastrous results. Moreover, as Fentanyl is up to 100 times stronger than Morphine, unmonitored usage can undoubtedly result in misuse of the substance as well as addiction.
Instructions for Fentanyl Drug Test
- Remove the fentanyl drug test from its sealed pouch and use it as soon as possible. For best result, the assay should be performed within an hour.
- Hold the strip by the end, where the product name is printed. To avoid contamination, do not touch the strip membrane.
- Holding the strip vertically, dip the test strip in the urine specimen for at least 10-15 seconds. Do not immerse past the maximum line (MAX) on the test strip, or about 1/5th of the way up the strip.
- After the fentanyl drug test has finished, remove the strip from the specimen and place it on a non-absorbent flat surface. Start the timer and wait for the colored band(s) to appear. The result should be read at 5 minutes. Do not interpret the result after 10 minutes.
The fentanyl urine test kit contains a cutoff level of 200ng/ml. It should be used exclusively to detect the use of fentanyl in urine. If stored in a refrigerator, make sure the strips are brought to room temperature before use. This test can be used at home or in a clinical setting.
